Outdoor Education at OLSH College

Outdoor Education invites students to learn through experience in natural environments. Through a range of activities and settings, students engage with the outdoors in ways that build practical understanding, personal awareness and a connection to the world around them.

Learning in outdoor settings
Girls participate in structured outdoor experiences that build practical skills and environmental understanding. Activities may include navigation, camping and water-based experiences, with a focus on safety, preparation and learning through doing.

Challenge and reflection
Outdoor Education provides opportunities for girls to engage with new and unfamiliar situations. Through guided challenges, students learn to approach experiences thoughtfully, reflect on their choices and develop a deeper understanding of their own capabilities.

Beyond the classroom
Programs extend beyond regular lessons through camps, excursions and outdoor activities. These shared experiences strengthen connections between students and create a sense of community while offering opportunities to apply learning in real and meaningful contexts.

Pathways and progression

Outdoor learning begins in Years 7 and 8 through Health and Physical Education, where students develop foundational skills and experience a range of activities. In Year 10, students can elect to study Stage 1 SACE Outdoor Education. In the senior years, students may continue into Stage 2 Outdoor Education, extending their practical experience and understanding.
