Learning in Action

Child Studies
Our Year 12 students recently visited St Martins Primary School, where they had the opportunity to work with Reception classes in a fun and engaging learning environment.
Across four classes, reaching approximately 100 students, the group planned, prepared, organised and delivered a range of play-based lessons. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they adapted to the needs of the Reception students and created a positive and supportive learning atmosphere.
This experience provided a valuable opportunity for our Year 12 students to apply their skills in a real-world setting while making a meaningful contribution to the school community.
“During the excursion to St Martins, we were able to experience what it was like to become the teacher of the class. It allowed us to see how children interacted with one another and how they used their creativity to express themselves with our many activities!” Jess
“I really enjoyed setting up and playing with the children during our lesson. We played with playdough and had fun doing a role-play kitchen. It definitely got a bit messy, but that was the best part because the children were having so much fun being creative.” Hannah
“Our assessment was based on creating an activity for the students to participate in. The excursion to the Primary school was an enjoyable experience. Meeting the students and engaging with them reminds me of my primary school days.” Melissa

Health and Nutrition
Ms Rapetti’s Year 10 Health students have been busy exploring the important topic of health and nutrition, learning how healthy food choices fuel the body with the energy and nutrients needed for everyday life. Students also examined the importance of regular physical activity and the role it plays in supporting overall health and wellbeing.
As part of their assessment task, students created a newsletter article promoting healthy eating and physical activity for OLSH College girls and their families. Through this unit, students have gained valuable insights into how balanced nutrition and an active lifestyle work together to keep our bodies functioning effectively throughout the school day and beyond.
Below is an example of a newsletter article created by a Year 10 student:
