Rayana

Embracing leadership, contributing to community and shaping her purpose

For Rayana, her time at OLSH College has continued to build on the strong foundations of the early years, with growing opportunities to reflect on her strengths and take an active role in the community. In Years 9 and 10, students are supported to set goals, explore their interests and begin to shape a sense of purpose for what comes next. Learning is designed to be engaging and relevant, encouraging students to think deeply, solve problems and take increasing responsibility for their learning.

Rayana is making the most of these opportunities, developing her strengths while contributing to College life in meaningful ways. Through her involvement in music, leadership roles and supporting others, she is building strong connections and a clear sense of direction. As Vice Captain of the Podsquad, and OC Ambassador of OLSH College, she is recognised as a thoughtful and emerging leader and mentor, while continuing to value her friendships and wellbeing.

As she moves through Year 10, Rayana is beginning to see how her learning, interests and experiences connect to future pathways and Senior School.

Rayana shares her perspective on this stage of her journey at OLSH College:

A: “I have been at OLSH College for four years, and I can confidently say that I am not the same girl I was when I first started, in only good ways! I have noticed significant change in my leadership skills and confidence, although the greatest improvement that I have identified within myself is definitely my determination and willingness to try out new things, which was definitely a struggle for me prior coming to OLSH College. This year I have been appointed Vice-Captain for the Podsquad and watching the girls grow and discover something they enjoy has been extremely rewarding.”

A: “During my time at OLSH College, my independence has really developed. In terms of learning, I started planning my schedule using a weekly planner, along with a to-do list on both my laptop and phone. This has really helped me take responsibility for my schoolwork and manage my time more effectively. Academic stress is something I have struggled with at times, but I took the initiative to seek guidance from my teachers. This helped me develop the confidence to approach challenges and overcome my fear of asking for help. Together, these experiences have helped me become a more independent learner.”

A: “Some of my most memorable experiences have been performing with my band at Assemblies and our Year 10 Reflection Day. I have always loved performing, and being able to do it with some of my closest friends is incredible, especially the first time we performed in front of the whole school! The positive feedback we received, and the sense of accomplishment afterwards made all the nerves worth it. Year 10 Reflection Day was also memorable. It made me more emotional than I expected, and having the opportunity to discuss important topics with my whole year level helped me feel even more connected to my peers.”

Being at OLSH College has helped me develop so many skills that go beyond academic achievements. I have always received great support from the staff, and the students help create such an incredible environment.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What technology will my daughter have access to?

As part of the College’s laptop program, each student is provided with a College-owned laptop to use while enrolled at OLSH College, along with access to a range of specialised software and digital learning tools. This ensures students have the technology and resources they need to support their learning across all subject areas, both at school and at home.

Why are Years 9 and 10 such an important stage in a student’s journey?

These years are often when students begin developing a stronger sense of who they are and who they want to become. They are encouraged to think more independently, challenge themselves, pursue their interests and recognise the strengths and talents they bring to the community. This helps students build confidence and prepare for future opportunities and pathways.

How does OLSH College support student wellbeing in Years 9 and 10?

In Years 9 and 10, the wellbeing focus is on goal setting, recognising individual strengths and developing a sense of purpose. Through Pastoral Care, Reflection Days, camps and other wellbeing experiences, students are encouraged to build resilience, strengthen relationships and develop the confidence to embrace future opportunities and challenges.

When do students begin preparing for Senior School and SACE?

Preparation for Senior School begins in Years 9 and 10. Students have the opportunity to explore their interests through elective subjects while developing the skills and knowledge required for future learning. Throughout this time, students are supported in making informed subject choices, discovering their strengths and passions, and considering the pathways available to them. In Year 10, students also begin their SACE journey through Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF), a compulsory Stage 1 subject that supports them to explore their strengths, interests and aspirations while considering future learning and pathway options.
