Musical

A Musical Theatre production is held biennially and every student has the opportunity to become involved. The OLSH Musical gives us a chance to celebrate who we are as a community and highlights our cultural diversity and our student’s passion and talent for the Arts.

Students from every year level have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents in a rich and extensive musical theatre production. The result is always a joyful and memorable experience as the students, whether as cast or crew, participate in a number of live shows performed at the fully equipped Parks Community Theatre in the first week of July.

Students are able to undertake leadership roles and fill positions on and off the stage, including choreography and backstage management. As such, they make many of the key choices and decisions that traditionally a director would make. By giving actors, designers and crew a say in creative choices it improves both the quality and originality of our work. When working together, the titles of ‘teacher’ and ‘student’ dissolve as we become artistic collaborators who work together to create a shared vision.

To celebrate our shared journey we have, since the 2009 production of The Wizard of Oz, gathered together after the production week for the inaugural Ruby Shoes Awards Night. Many awards, such as Most Improved, Best Characterisation, and  Most Outstanding Set Change (in the style of the less prestigious Oscars) are presented on this Night of Nights!

2023 Musical

‘Into The Woods Jr’

We are excited to extend an invitation for you to attend our upcoming biennial Musical Into The Woods Jr with Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Book by James Lapine. Into the Woods JR. features all of your favourite characters – Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables. The musical centres on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.

The OLSH College Musical, gives us a chance to celebrate who we are as a community, highlighting the opportunities open to our girls and their passion and talent for the Arts.

We know a number of our girls are former students and they are always delighted to see their family and friends in the audience, and we look forward to seeing you at this year’s production.
